Marion James Knox, was born to the union of Joseph and Letha Knox on May 15, 1934. Marion was baptized St. Nicholas Church in St. Louis. He graduated from St. Nicholas High School on June, 1951. Marion enlisted in the United States Air Force at the age of 17 with signed approval from his mother the late Letha Knox. He graduated from Harris Teacher’s College June, 1965 with a Bachelor of Arts in Education. He attended the University of Missouri at St. Louis, where he earned his Master’s Degree in education on June, 1969.
Marion began his career in education in 1965 as a supervising teacher in the adult education program. His career spanned over thirty-one years with St. Louis City Public schools. He was one of five administrators who was selected by Mary Beth LaMear to start up the Dr. Jones’ School of Emphasis Program.
Marion met and married Audrey Hinds and from their union Darryl James Knox, Sr was born. Marion retired June, 1996 to raise his son, Darren Cole Knox (mother; Angela “Angie”) Upon graduating from high school, Darren chose to follow in Marion’s footsteps by enlisting in service, to the Marines. Marion also has over forty years of membership in the Grand Fraternity, Kappa Alpha Psi Inc, and inspired son, Darryl to become a Kappa as well.
Marion kept close ties with family members. Throughout the years he gathered many relatives and friends for reunions and numerous events. Marion served for six years as a City of Olivette, Missouri trustee. Some of his favorite charities were St. Judes’ for Children and the United Negro College Fund.
Marion leaves to cherish his memory: Two sons Darryl (Nina) Knox of Plainfield, IL and Darren (Sarafina) Knox of Jamul, CA. Three grandchildren Darryl Jr., Gina, and Christina of Plainfield, IL. And a host of relatives: Moses Lee Clay of Milwaukee, WI; Wanda (Derek) Robinson of St. Louis, MO; Joe Knox, Blytheville, Ark; Marilyn Knox, Blytheville, Ark; Ossie McFerrin of St. Louis, MO; Essie McFerrin of St. Louis, MO; Alice McSwyne of St. Louis, MO; Frank (Debra) Taylor of Riverdale, CA; Fred Taylor of Milwaukee, WI; Jeannie Wells, St. Louis, MO.
