Willie Mae Thompson-Stokes was the third child of Mr. Ben J. and Mrs. Claudie Mae Walker. She was born April 17, 1954 in Pace, MS. She moved to Joliet, Illinois in 1975 to help provide care for her grandmother, Callie Carr. Joliet is the place where she made her home.
She confessed hope in Christ at an early age at Gospel Temple M.B. Church in a small town of Skene, Mississippi. She went on to become a member of Second Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Larry V. Tyler.
She was preceded in death by her parents; Ben and Claudie Walker, her son, N.L. Thompson III; her sister, Callie Mae Coleman and her brother, Myron Walker.
She departed her life on Sunday, December 23, 2018 in Joliet, Illinois.
Willie Mae leaves to cherish her memories; her husband, Cleveland Stokes of Joliet, IL; a son, Michael (Maria) Thompson of Gulfport, MS; five sisters, Betty Lou Edwards of Dallas, TX, Caroline Walker, Rose Walker and Margurite (Michael) Lambert all of Pace, MS and Dinett (Arlington) Evans of Beulah, MS; two brothers, Raymond Walker of Pace, MS and Ben (DeKendra) Walker of Joliet , IL; beloved aunt, Maudie Mae Carr of Joliet, IL and a cousin she loved as a brother, Winifred Jones of Joliet, IL; brothers-in-law, Daniel Stokes, Samuel Stokes, Joseph Stokes and Reginald Stokes; two sisters-in-law, Annie Williams and Addie Wilson. She also leaves to cherish her memories a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
