Gregory Wendell Rucker was born on March 5, 1950 in Washington, D.C. to the late Leon and Ophilia Rucker. He married Jereldine Rucker (Meeks) on March 5, 1982. Gregory accepted Christ at an early age. Gregory was a member/altar boy of St. Francis DePaula. When he relocated t Joliet, Illinois, he became a member of Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church. Gregory attended and graduated from De La Salle Institute on June 2, 1968 in Chicago, Illinois. Gregory joined the Navy on August 13, 1968 and was honorably discharged on August 12, 1974. Gregory also joined the United States Army Reserves and the Army National Guard of the United States. Gregory moved from Chicago, Illinois to Joliet, Illinois and was hired as a Correctional Offices in August 1977 and promoted through the ranks as a Sgt.; Lt; Captain at Joliet Correction Center. He retired as a Major from Joliet Correctional Center in 2002. Gregory, before being employed at Joliet Correctional Center, also worked at United States Post Office; Pfizer Pharmaceutical; Illinois Bell; and Billings Hospital, Chicago, Illinois. Sunset for our loved one occurred on Monday, November 27, 2017. He was preceded in death by his parents, Leon and Ophilia Rucker. Gregory leaves to cherish in memory; a loving wife, Jereldine Rucker; one son, Gregory (Chrissy) Rucker, Jr. of Chicago, IL; two daughters, Angela Jefferson of Texas and Leori Marie (Rick) Bolivar of Tallahassee, Florida; two brothers, Charles Rucker of Dixon, Illinois and Paul (Mary) Simons of Aiken, South Carolina; four grandchildren, nine great grandchildren; a host of aunts, uncles, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Heavenly Father, be with the Rucker Family who is grieving today. They have lost a very good man. Let your Holy Spirit comfort them and give them peace to rest in your Almighty Arms.
