Victor E. Hicks was born on October 13, 1955 in Chicago, Illinois to Joseph N. Hicks Sr., and Thelma Hicks. He was one of five beloved children.

Victor was also raised and spent a great portion of his adulthood in Chicago, Illinois. Years later he relocated to Joliet, Illinois.

Victor loved to work. He was at times known as a workaholic. His love of work was also evident in his driving for a taxi cab and limousine service for a number of years. Then in 1979 Victor began working for the Statesville Correctional Center. He adored his job as an esteemed correctional officer. He was employed there for 26 years until he retired.

Victor had a multitude of enjoyments in his life such as riding his motorcycle, going to the gun range, luxury cars, driving, church, and spending time with family and friends. He especially enjoyed playing Bidwiz with his friend, Connie Bishop. Victor was especially passionate about law enforcement. It was something he kept very close to his heart and loved deeply.

Victor transitioned this life on December 1, 2017. He is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph N. Hicks Sr., Thelma Hicks; and three brothers, Ruben Hicks, Christopher Hicks, and Joseph Hicks Jr.

Victor leaves the memory of his life to his children, Victoria Woods, Tenika (Demarco) Williams, Florida (Emanuel) Orozco, Victor Hicks Jr., Joseph Hicks, and Tiffany Hicks; one surviving sister, Josette, and only brother-in-law, Kevin Young; 11 grandchildren; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, former co-workers, and friends.

I pray God's peace and comfort for each of you during your period of sorrow and grieving. I have known your Dad for many years and his gruff voice, comedy and even his some time irritating ways will be greatly missed. Peace.

My words cannot fully express the sorrow I feel. My heart is heavy with the news of Victor's home going. My prayers are with all those that loved him and those he loved. I will always have a place in my heart for him. I will especially remember the time he opened his home to my sister and I when we were young. I can still hear him yelling downstairs at Vicky, Tee, Florida and my sister and I. May you treasure the wonderful times you shared with him. My prayers are with friends and family.
