Sam Pierce Jr. was born March 20, 1943 in Louin, MS to Sam and Oneta Pierce.  He was the youngest of seven children born to this union.

 

Sam confessed Christ and was baptized at an early age.  Sam attended Community Center in Louin, MS.  He also attended Bellhaven School in Louin, MS and attended Williamson High School in Mobile, Alabama.

 

Sam moved to Joliet, Illinois and worked many jobs; Caterpillar Tractor Co., Pace Bus, Travel Coach Bus, Cardinal Trucking, local school buses, security for Cabrini Green and security for Zayre Department Store.

 

Sam also helped build the Mt. Zion Church Family Life Center.  Sam will be remembered for his love of music, dancing, telling jokes and enjoying all kinds of food, including rattle snake.  Sam was a longtime member of the Brothers of Soul motorcycle club.

 

God in his infinite grace and wisdom decided to call Sam home on Saturday, April 7, 2018.

 

Sam is preceded in death by his parents, Sam and Oneta Pierce; sisters, Nancy Carr, Lula Alexander, Liz Jessup; brother, Lawrence Pierce; son, Christopher Pierce; daughter, Janice Pierce.

 

Sam leaves to cherish his memories; his wife, Yolanda; brothers, Rev. Charles (Darnell) Pierce and Rev. Eddie (Ruthie) Pierce; sister, Carrie Pierce; his daughters, Anita Norris, Belinda (Lorena) Valdez, Rebecca Pierce-Terry, Zina, Tamika Pierce, Tasha (Howard) Snapp; sons, Samuel Antonio Pierce, Joseph Holmes, Kenneth Whennen, Quincy, Terrence Pierce, Timothy (Veronica) Norris, Christopher Norris, Courtney Norris; numerous grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins; close friends, Joseph and Oscar Taylor; sisters-in-law, Eartha (Anthony) Evans, Carol (Demetrius) Snapp; brothers-in-laws, Rodney (Sandy) Shelby, Ronnie (Deb) Shelby and Abe Alexander.
