Dorothy G. Smith

Our beloved, Dorothy G. Smith was born February 17, 1951 in Leland, Mississippi.  She was the fifth child of nine siblings born to the union of Miles Edward and LeeAnna Stevenson.  Dorothy accepted Christ at the age of thirteen and was baptized at Shiloh M.B. Church under the pastoral leadership of the late Rev. Charles H. Savage.  She graduated from Henry H. Weathers High School and joined hands with W.T. Smith in Holy Matrimony on August 26, 1969, and moved to Chicago, Illinois shortly thereafter.  To this union, three sons were born.

Dorothy had a twenty-six-year career with the United States Postal Service before retiring on short-term disability.  Although she could no longer perform the duties of her craft assignment, she pursued her hobby and passion for art and painting.  For more than twelve years, she spread her Christmas spirit though her window paintings at Christmas time.

Dorothy went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, April 3, 2024 in Hazel Crest, Illinois.  She was preceded in death by her parents; and four siblings, Mildred Stevenson, Velma Stevenson, Jerry Stevenson and. Louis Stevenson.

Dorothy leaves to cherish her memories; her sons, R. Tyler (Sharon McNair) Smith, William Tyrone Smith (Lakia) and Corey T. Smith (Shumika), all of Illinois; eight grandchildren, Diedre Vaughn, Byrce Worthy, Tania, Taylor, Sharese, Cordai, Keelan and Caleb Smith; five great grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Doris Bennett of Jackson, MS and JoAnne Smith of Rolling Fork, MS; sisters and brothers, Nellie Speed of Hazel Crest, IL, James (Gloria) Stevenson of University Park, IL, Charles (Maxine) Stevenson and Betty Bradshaw of Chicago, IL and Olivia Williams of Phoenix, AZ and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
