Charles D. Avery, affectionately known as “Charlie” was born January 6, 1936 to Lucy (nee Mason) Avery and James Allen Avery in Grenada, Mississippi.
He accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior and served faithfully. He was united in holy matrimony to Louella Allen on May 28, 1964 and to this union, two children were born, Berninia Avery and Charles L. Jackson.
Charles served in the United States Armed Forces and was honorably discharged. He was employed by Caterpillar Tractor Company and retired after many years of dedicated service. He also worked for a short time at Enterprise Car Rental after his retirement.
He is preceded in death by his parents; one grandson; three sisters and six brothers.
He departed this life on Friday, November 22, 2019 at Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox, Illinois.
Charles is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Louella Avery; one daughter, Berninia D. (David L.) Ward of Joliet, IL and one son, Charles L. Jackson of Minneapolis, MN; two sisters, Iona Savage and Louise Avery; one brother, George C. Avery; one grandson, Martin Allen Jamison, Sr.; four great grandsons, Martin Jamison, Jr., Kayden Jamison, Major Jamison and Kendrick Jamison; two god daughters, Melba McCaskill and Bobbie Millsap; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
