Dennis D. Sims was born February 10, 1957 to Deacon Lonnie Marvin Sims, Sr. and Pastor Ethel Pearl (nee Clerk) Sims in Joliet, Illinois. He was the oldest of eight children.
Dennis attended Longfellow, Thompson and Laraway Elementary Schools and graduated from Joliet East High School. He was a well-rounded participant in extra curriculum activities at Joliet East. He was on the basketball team, choir and on the track team at Joliet East High School. He was extremely popular in his heydays. Immediately after high school, Dennis was awarded a two-year scholarship and attended Joliet Junior College, earning his Culinary Arts certificate.
He was a life-long member of All Nations Church of God in Christ in Joliet, Illinois. He accepted Christ at an early age. Dennis married Kathleen (Harris) Sims in 1978 and from this union, three children were born; Sonya, Kathleen and Matthew Sims.
He is preceded in death by his parents; Lonnie Marvin Sims, Sr. and Ethel Pearl Sims; two brothers, Rickey Sims, Lonnie Sims, Jr.; and one son, Matthew Sims.
He departed this life on Sunday, December 1, 2019 at Presence St. Joseph Medical Center in Joliet, IL.
He leaves to cherish his memories; two daughters, Sonya Sims-Sampson (Issac) and Kathleen Sims-Hogue (Douglas); four sisters, Demetria Sims, Julie (Sims) Hatten-Dale (Jeffery), Roslyn Lewis (Michael) and Daphney Sims-Washington (Roy, deceased), all of Joliet, IL; one brother, Vincent (Stephanie) Sims, Sr.; two great aunts, Ester Hill and Artis Thompson and a host of other relatives and friends.
