Joseph Edward Henderson was born on January 22, 1934 in Olmsted, Illinois to Lee and Jessie (nee Cooper) Henderson. Joseph passed away on Friday, September 6, 2019 at the Parc of Joliet Nursing Home.
Joseph accepted Christ at an early age and continued in his belief in God. He was a very kind hearted and giving individual who never met a stranger.
Joseph enlisted in the United States Navy and served from 1955 to 1957 upon receiving his honorable discharge. Joseph was known for his great gardening abilities and furnished the entire Joliet and surrounding areas with his watermelons, fresh vegetables and all accessories from his garden.
Joseph worked for GAF Corporation in Joliet, Illinois and later retired. He was also employed for Standstill Surge and Johns Manville Corporation.
Joseph is preceded in death by his parents, Lee and Jessie Henderson; his wife, Rhodie Henderson; daughter, Benita Henderson and a sister, Lola Stovall of Olmsted, Illinois.
He leaves to cherish his memories; one daughter, Ericka Henderson Ferguson of Joliet, Illinois; four brothers, George Henderson of Olmsted, Illinois, Levi Henderson of Florida, Freddy (Cindy) and Elbert Henderson of Olmsted, Illinois; as well as three sisters, Minnie Cheney of Detroit, Michigan, Jessie Kimmins and Mildred Henderson both of Olmsted, Illinois; three grandchildren, Marcalz Ferguson, Dante Ferguson and Sierra Ferguson; two great grandchildren, Noah Ferguson and Ariea Ferguson of Joliet, Illinois and a host of other family and friends.
