Louise Carson Obituary

Louise (Harris) Carson was born to Argell (Thigpen) Harris and Clinton Harris on February 12, 1931, in Joliet, Illinois. The third of eight children. She was a loving child who enjoyed singing. She attended Joliet Public Schools’ Central Campus.

Louise dedicated her life to Christ at an early age and was a devout servant for the Lord throughout her life.  She was a member of All Nations C.O.G.I.C., where her father was a founding member, for more than 20 years.

In 1949 she married the love of her life, Calvin Carson. Eleven children were born to this union. She was a loving and devoted wife and mother, and an overall pleasant person to be in the presence of.

In 1980 she joined Monument of Faith Evangelistic Church, where she was a pillar in the church.  She served as choir director, praise team leader and was an active member on various ministries.  She was a church mother and had many “spiritual sons and daughters”.  As choir director, she taught many people that did not sing, that they had a voice, and taught many others how to direct.  She was a great encourager and leader to the young and old.

As a young adult, she worked as a nurse’s aide and domestic caregiver. She later worked as a foster grandparent for Catholic Charities of Joliet. A position she held with high esteem for 25 years.  Louise loved working with her students, and in-turn is loved by many throughout the city of Joliet.

Louise wasn’t one to let grass grow under her feet. She also volunteered at the Morning Star Mission once a month, during summer camp at the Harvey Brooks Foundation, and lead praise and worship service at the food pantry.  She would often assist the street ministry in winning souls for the Lord -boots on the ground style.

She enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren, and cooked family dinner every Sunday and after church her children and grandchildren would visit.

Louise loved to shop; she loved fashion, color coordinating her outfits, and she loved bling! She liked to frequent resale shops and malls. And for someone who never learned how to drive, she had no problems getting anywhere she wanted to go. As her driver, she would have you taking her to four or five stores before you knew it!

She was preceded in death by her: parents, Argell Harris and Clinton Harris; husband, Calvin Carson; five brothers: Roosevelt (Sandra) Harris, Cornelius (Jessie) Harris, Dan Harris, Gilbert Harris,  and Clinton Harris Jr.; sister, Emma Jean Harris; sister-in-law, Carol Titus; three daughters: Alicia Carson, Dawn (Kerry) Roney, and Cheryl (Joseph) Nixon; three grandsons; James Carson Jr., Demetrius Carson, and Brandyn Lee; and three great grandchildren: Zaqqar Rose, Gianna Lee, and Giovanni Lee.

She is survived by her sister, Margaret Hagler; eight children: Calvin (Patricia) Carson Jr., James (Wanda) Carson, Patricia Carson, Melvin (Francine) Carson, Micheal Carson, Tamy Carson, Mary Carson and Kevin (KaSaundra) Carson; sister-in-law, Alice Weeks; as well as a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
