Robert Gholston, Sr. Obituary

Robert B. Gholston, Sr. was born on February 28, 1945 to Ed and Lula Gholston in Sunflower, MS.  He was one of eleven (11) children born to that union.  Robert passed away peacefully on Monday, November 11, 2019 at his home in Joliet, IL.

Robert accepted Christ at an early age and reaffirmed his love and acceptance of Jesus Christ as his savior October 2019.  He attended St. Peters Grade School and Sunflower High School in Sunflower, MS.  Robert moved to Joliet, IL in 1965. 

Robert was employed and retired from Elgin Joliet & Eastern Railway (EJ&E) after 25 years of dedicated service.  Robert’s favorite hobbies were giving without expecting anything in return, working on cars, and hunting and fishing.  He also was an avid listener of “the blues” and loved barbequing and sharing his “secret sauce” with family and friends.

Robert is preceded in death by his parents, Ed and Lula Gholston; seven sisters, Mettie Heath, Mary Lee Stepney, Emma Colston, Ora Dee Gholston, Mattie Bell Gholston, Lizzie Robinson and Ollie Ruth McCullum.

Robert leaves to cherish his memories his adoring wife; Annie Faye Gholston;  five loving children, Glenda (Earl) Corbett, Monee, IL, Robert (Tanglea) Gholston Jr. Joliet, IL, Cynthia D’Hulster, Richton Park, IL, Candy Gholston, Joliet, IL and Robert (Yolanda) Parker, Momence, IL; 18 loving grandchildren and four beautiful great grandchildren; one loving sister, Eddie B (George) Edwards; two wonderful brothers, James Gholston, Joliet, IL and Roosevelt (Annie) Gholston of Sunflower, MS; best friend, McKinley Brown, EJ & E family, hunting/fishing friends; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins,  and many, many close relatives and friends.
