Bishop Jerry Herron was born October 6, 1947 in Chicago, Illinois to Lula Jones and Sylvester Herron.  He went to sleep on Monday, October 9, 2017.  Bishop Herron was raised from the age of seven by his aunt, Mamie Jackson, who was the Pastor of Christ Temple Church in Robbins, IL.

Bishop Herron was blessed with two children Cindy Lynn Herron and Jerry Lavar Herron.

Bishop Herron loved people and he loved helping people.   He would make you feel at ease around him and he would draw you into his circle. He had such a charismatic personality. Taking you out to eat was something he enjoyed doing. No place to stay, he would take you in and help you get on your feet. Bishop Herron’s zeal for starting ministries led him to open five places of worship in Atlanta, Georgia, one in Aurora, IL and one in Chicago, IL.  After years of serving in the Pastorate office he observed the necessity for biblical education among the people of God.  Bishop Herron was inspired with the means to share theology and bible studies with others by starting Open Arms International Ministries Bible College and Seminary. Bishop Herron going beyond the pulpit and the church arena pursued another call and passion for people.  He founded multiple outreach programs such as housing and resources for HIV/AIDS, Disabled Veterans, Substance Abuse, Battered Women Outreach and Prison Outreach, this was a man with great compassion for people.

Bishop Herron was a one man band he could sing, beat the drums, bang on the piano, preach, and shout on ONE leg.

Bishop Herron had many health issues but he continued to press his way to the people of God for the people of God. Galatians 6:9-10 says “And let us not be weary in well doings: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.” As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men especially unto them who are of the household of faith.

Bishop Herron was preceded in death by his parents; Sylvester Herron and Lula Jones; six brothers, Moses Herron, Willie Graves, Sylvester Herron Jr., W.C. Herron, George Herron and Joe Herron; one sister, Georgia Ruth Maiden.

Bishop Herron leaves to cherish and honor his life; one daughter, Cindy Lynn Herron and one son Jerry Lavar Herron; six grandchildren, Tony Pittman Jr, Jasmine Pittman, Kiera Pittman, Tia Pittman, Jalen Herron and Jordyn Herron; eight great grandchildren; one sister, Ruby Ann Coleman; godson, James Wright; devoted high school friend, Jack Frison and a host of relatives, friends and church family.
