1SG Thomas Washington was called “Tom, Tommy, Pops, Geezer and Poppa T” by those who knew him.  He was born August 5, 1949 and was called home on Thursday, February 1, 2018.  He is preceded in death by his mother, Virgan Mary Washington and father, Charlie Washington Sr.

All who crossed his path were touched by his nature. He joined the military early in life and served his country proudly. After his active duty he was an active reservist for many years. Even after his active reserve was finished he remained an active member of the American Legion. He worked for both Texaco and Exxon Mobil locally. As a scaffold builder and Supervisor he groomed many employees and represented his companies well. He retired from Exxon Mobil in 2016.

Thomas enjoyed taking care of his family members and worked hard to provide for them. He was always there with guidance, a know how mentality and a constructive criticism when needed. He prided himself on being prepared and able to do what needed to be done when called upon. He strived to raise his children to be strong independent men capable of handling any situation that arose.

He spent 44 years of his life with his wife. They worked through this thing called life and came out the other end together. From a chance sighting at Dukes, to the first house,  to the many shows watching Mel perform, the weddings of Gary and Patrick to the births of Finley and Davis.

He is survived by his wife Bettye of 44 years; children Gary (Julia), Melvin and Patrick (Jacque); grandchildren Donovan, Brenden, Finley and Davis; brothers; sister; nieces and nephews.

Thomas will be missed but will live on through the lessons he provided.
