Hansel Earl Smith was born on November 8, 1943 in Minter City, Mississippi to the proud parents of Amos Smith and Bernice Sparman. Hansel confessed his faith at an early age. He became a member of Jacob Chapel Baptist Church in Minter City, MS under the leadership of Reverend Dixon. Hansel received his education at T.Y. Fleming Elementary School and Maranatha High School located in Minter City, MS. Hansel began work as a young boy tending in the fields of Equen Plantation. He left Minter City, Mississippi in 1963 at the age of 20 to pursue other work. He began work at K’s Music where he assembled pianos, guitars, etc. for a short period. Other line of work included Schwartz Pickle Company for 10 years. He also did side projects that included repairing television sets, radio sets, and other miscellaneous appliances. Hansel met and fell in love with Linda Sue Hornburger in May of 1970 in Chicago, Illinois. The young couple were united in Holy Matrimony on May 15, 1971 in Chicago, Illinois. The couple produced two daughters; Toni Lynette Smith, born September 1981 and Kelle Renee Smith, Born in November of 1986. On Friday, February 9, 2018, Hansel made his heavenly transition. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bernice Sparman-Smith and Amos Smith; brothers, D.L. Smith of Minter City, MS, Douglas Smith of Joliet, IL, and Murray Charles Smith of Milwaukee, WI and one sister, Burnell Robinson of Joliet, IL. He leaves to cherish his heartfelt memories; wife, Linda Smith; two daughters, Toni Lynette Smith and Kelle Renee Smith; one special niece, Patricia Williams; two great nieces, Ashanti Williams and Araya Crowder; special sister-in-law, Rosie Williams; nephew, Devontae Williams, all of Joliet, Illinois; four sisters, Dorothy (Robert) McNear, Bernice McElrath, Anna V. (Alex) Hamilton, Linda (James Banks); two brothers, Alvin Smith of Milwaukee, WI and James Smith of Joliet, IL; special cousin, Rosie Mae Carter; also numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
