Wife, Mother, Mama, Grandmama, Sister, Aunty, Miss Walker, Friend – She was all that and more!

Margree Walker went home to be with her Lord on Tuesday, February 27, 2018.

We, her family, Praise God for giving her to us for 94 years!  She was the Best and she belonged to Him.

Born to Ella and General Easley of Meridian, Mississippi on June 16, 1923.  She was the second oldest of 13 children.  She married James Walker, Jr. in September of 1942 and they moved to Joliet, IL where her oldest sister, Ella Williamson was already living and raised their family of nine children.

Mrs. Walker accepted Christ in Mississippi and joined the Mt. Moriah Baptist Church in the 1950’s (shortly after its inception) under the leadership of founding Pastor Rev. James McNear.  She sang in the Choir, served on the Mission Board and served in the Busy Bee Club.  She supported her Church and Pastors to the very end.   Even though she was unable to physically attend in her later years, she was always up-to-date and included in the activities and ministries of her Church.

Mrs. Walker loved to cook and was known for her special dishes;  Banana Puddin’, her signature Macaroni Salad, Potato Salad and Mean Greens.  She would make enough to feed any and everybody.  Until she couldn’t, she had a garden every year and always had a good harvest that she enjoyed sharing.  If you went down Draper Avenue, she probably saw you from her window seat in her kitchen.

Mrs. Walker represents the “last to go” of the women and mothers who lived in the old neighborhood on Englewood Street- “The Wood”.  There are no more of these Mamas.

She retired from Rockwell Automation in Downers Grove, IL.

She was preceded to glory by her husband, James Walker, Jr.; her son, Larry Walker, parents General and Ella (nee Irby) Easley; brothers, Abel, Perry, Tyree (Viola),  Arzel “Lovelle”,  General “Bill” and Joseph Easley; sisters, Pearl (El Gene) Crowell, Ella (Charles) Williamson, Mazel Frost, Mildred (James) Matthews, Adeline “Ruby” Matthews and Christine (Eddie) Young.

She leaves in the Lord’s continued care; her children, LoveLee (Carmen) Walker, Jimmy (Sharon) Walker, Margie Parrish, Pearlie (Willie, deceased) Adams, Regina Bell, Robert Quincy Walker, Dana (Sharon) Walker and Drew Walker, all of Joliet, IL; two sisters, Julia Nell (Herbert, deceased) Williamson, Joliet, IL and Ernestine “Kitty” Easley of Meridian, MS; one brother-in-law, Cebron Matthews of Sandusky OH; special nieces, who were like daughters to her, Lorraine and Caroline Easley, 19 grandchildren and 46 great-grandchildren;  special first-cousins, Sam and Bennie C. Irby; special buddies, Ellen Williams and Irma King; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends including her Mt. Moriah Church Family.
