Albert Green Jr. Obituary

The Life and Journey of Albert “Hook” Green Jr.

The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?

Psalm 27:1

Albert Green Jr., the oldest son of eleven children, passed away on December 24, 2021 at the age of 83 surrounded by loved ones who will forever honor his legacy.  Albert Green Jr., known as “Hook”, was born on September 4, 1938 in Farrell, Mississippi to Albert Green Sr. and Lee Etta Green.  He was preceded in death by his parents; and three siblings – Willa (Sylvester) Johnson, Morris Green, and Brenda (Donald) Cummings.

The Green family moved to Illinois in June of 1945.  Albert attended Lockport Township High School where he was a four-year letterman in football.  After graduating, he went on to play football at Joliet Junior College.  The highlight of his football career was scoring six touchdowns in a single game at JJC.  His football career was later derailed by a knee injury.  In 1960, Albert enlisted in the United States Army and served in the Vietnam War as a Communication Liaison / Radio Operator in the 137th Ordnance Company in Okinawa, Japan.  He returned home from the Army and began his career at U.S. Steel.  After 19 years, he retired as a foreman from U.S. Steel and became a custodian at Lockport Township High School.

Albert was united in marriage to Dorothy Robinson.  To that union, one son was born.  He later married Jeannette Pinnick.

Albert was selfless, had a giving heart, and maintained a calm and positive spirit through any challenge.

He had a passion for fishing and sports.  He enjoyed fishing the Fox River with his uncle, brothers, son, grandson, and friends in Oshkosh, Wisconsin.  He was a die-hard Lockport Porter fan and an all-around sports enthusiast.  Albert also enjoyed horse racing, playing cards, and loved nothing more than spending time with his grandchildren.

Albert leaves to cherish his memories:  his only son – Jeffrey; three grandchildren – Morgan, Khadriene, and Harrison; seven siblings – James, Charles, Chester, Alvin (Sue), Darlene, Shelia (Bryant) Lindsey, Terry (Lori); Kevin Dixon; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

For this God is our God for ever and ever: he will be our guide even unto death.

Psalm 48:14
