Albert White, Jr. greeted the world on Wednesday, November 2, 1949, to Albert Sr. and Elizabeth White (nee Scott). He was welcomed into the loving arms of Jesus on July 13, 2019. He was the second of nine children (both parents and two brothers, Paul White and Darryl White preceded him in death).
Albert was known by several names: Albert Jr., Al, Big Al, and Uncle Al to name a few. He was educated in the Chicago public schools. Al matriculated to Lamar Community College in Lamar, CO.
As a young adult, he accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior and joined St. Stephen African Methodist Episcopal Church in Chicago. Al met and later married Debra White (nee Massie). He was a loving and supportive father to his six children: Lamont White, Tammy White (Kerry), Tameka Echols (Quan), Jason White (who preceded him in death), Brandon White, and Malcolm Smith.
Al was a singer’s singer who could get your feet moving with his rendition of any song by Earth Wind & Fire or your soul stirring with “Open Our Eyes” by the Gospel Clefs.
He was known for his timeless words of wisdom, unwavering faith in God, his strong will to live, and leaned on the love and prayers of family, friends, and the many supporters that carried him through the most difficult times in life. Through the love and prayers of others, Al rededicated his life to the Lord and joined Victory Cathedral Worship Center in Bolingbrook, IL under the leadership of Pastor Smokie Norful.
Al was as hard-working man beginning at the tender age of eight. He worked for the railroad and later the People’s Resource Center “PRC” until his passing. He even advocated for the “PRC” from his hospital bed. His passion and compassion extended far beyond his family. He dedicated his life to helping others. He helped feed countless numbers of families, was a founding member of the annual Father’s Day picnic on the Westside of Chicago.
Al leaves behind to celebrate his life, his wife of 49 years, his children, grandchildren, Sunita White, Kerry White, Daesha White, Leo Thomas, Cleo Thomas, Jordan Ocel, Lauren Mattson-White, Kendall Echols, and Kaela Echols; great-grandchildren, Kerrion, Myana, Jamari, Leo Jr., and Kali; four brothers, Donald, Michael, Charles and Tyrone; two sisters, Annette and Diane; and host of nieces, nephews, and an abundance of extended family and friends from all walks of life.
