Life Journey of Alice Marie Walker
Alice Marie Walker was born October 23,1942 in Brownsville, Tennessee to the late Curtis and Willie Alice Pender Johns.
At an early age, Alice accepted Christ and began her spiritual journey at Browns Creek Missionary Baptist Church in Brownsville, Tennessee. She graduated from Carver High School. In 1963 she moved to Chicago Illinois starting a career at Illinois Bell. Later she united with Proviso Missionary Baptist Church in Maywood, Illinois where she remained a faithful member for more than 50 years. During her years of membership, she served faithfully and loved her church family dearly.
Alice was preceded in death by her beloved brothers, Larry Nolen Johns, LC Johns, and Roger Johns.
Alice was the third of eight children and the only daughter, a role she carried with grace, strength, and love throughout her life. From an early age, she possessed a caring spirit and a heart devoted to family, faith, and service.Alice was known for her warm smile, kind heart, wise counsel, and unwavering love for those around her. She touched countless lives through her generosity, compassion, and nurturing spirit. To know Alice was to experience love, encouragement, and strength.
She leaves to cherish her precious memories her loving brothers: William Ed Johns of Sacramento, California; Stephen Johns of Bolingbrook, IL; Bennie Johns (Sadie) of Memphis, Tennessee; and Milton Johns Sr. of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; sister-in-law Shirley Johns of Brownsville, Tennessee; her beloved goddaughter, Rosalyn Johns-Jackson (Eric) of Brownsville, Tennessee; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, church family, and friends who will forever treasure her memory.
Though she has departed this earthly life, her love and legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
