Andrew "DOC" Shannon, age 80, of Joliet, Illinois, peacefully entered eternal rest on March 29, 2026. He was born on August 8, 1945, to the late Andrew Shannon Sr. and Evelyn (Boykin) Shannon.
Andrew attended Joliet Township High School and proudly graduated with the Class of 1965. During his youth, he was active in running track and performing in his high school band, displaying the energy and spirit that would define his life. He later shared his love for sports by coaching baseball and encouraging young athletes.
At a young age, Andrew accepted Christ into his life and became a God-fearing man whose faith remained the foundation of his character. Andrew dedicated more than 20 years of service to ComEd, where he was known for his strong work ethic and commitment. Beyond his career, he was a devoted member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church.
His faith guided his life, and he continuously uplifted others with wisdom, kindness, and encouragement. One of his favorite sayings, “Keep your hand in GOD'S hand," reflected the way he lived each day.
Affectionately known as "DOC," Andrew was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend. He never met a stranger and could talk with anyone, anywhere. His warm smile lit up every room, and his gentle spirit made people feel welcomed and valued. He loved traveling, cheering for his favorite team (the New York Yankees), and most of all, spending precious time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren, who were the joy of his life.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew Shannon Sr. and Evelyn Shannon.
Andrew leaves to cherish his loving memory his daughter, Sheena Shannon; stepdaughter, Latoya Martin; former spouse, Patsy Shannon; brother, Robert (Sarah) Shannon; very special friend, Billy Thompson; special cousin, Denise Winfrey; grandchildren, Kyleigh and Kashton Powell, Toriana Martin, Marshawn McCullum, and Demetrius Saunders; and great-grandchildren, Morgan and Torion Phelps and Taytum Saunders, along with a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, church family, and dear friends.
