Author Mack “Mac” Carpenter was born June 7, 1967 in Gary, Indiana to James E. Carpenter and Esther M. Carpenter.
Mac attended school at Lowell Longfellow Primary School and graduated from Thornridge High School in Dolton, Illinois.
Mac accepted Christ in this very room at True Holiness Church and served faithfully for years in the Choir and as junior deacon under the Leadership of the late Elder James C. Harris (Calitha) as his Senior Pastor and Elder Carl J. Harris as his Junior Pastor.
Mac proudly served his country as a U.S. Marine for four years after graduating high school and trained in Okinawa, Japan.
Together with Yolanda Shores née Jones (Charles) Mac became a father to his heart’s delight, his only daughter Tranel E. Hill-Barrett (Jekilan). She gave him two wonderful grandsons, Taurus Scroggins, Jr. (“TJ”), 10, and Ethan Hill-Barrett, 4, all of Killeen, Texas. His daughter, her husband and grandsons were his greatest joys in life.
Mac worked for Allendale School for many years and enjoyed the service he provided to young people in crisis. His work there brought him much satisfaction.
Mac leaves to cherish his memories: his daughter and son-in-law Tranel (Jekilan);his two grandsons, TJ and Ethan, of Killeen, TX; his sister Patricia of Chicago, IL; his sister Sandra and his twin sister Augusta (“Pam”) both of Fayetteville, GA; his brother Ronald, Lansing, MI; his niece Rashonda and nephew Donquist both of Lansing, MI; his sisters Ashley, Tarmara and brother Leon all of Crete, IL; his stepmother Anniece of Crete, IL; his “other” brothers and sisters: Fred Neal; Bolden Jones; Vaughn White; Andre White; Eric White; Freddie White; Kelvin Perry; Mike Bennett; Carina White Michael; Tracey White Broughton-Dawkins; Linda Harris; and Joyce Nichols; and a host of Aunts, Uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Mac was preceded in death by his Mother Esther; his Father James; his oldest Sister Virginia; his youngest Sister Walnetta, his grandmothers Vera and Minnie and both of his grandfathers.
