Barbara Jean Compton was born December 31, 1951 to her loving parents Lawrence and Dorothy Compton, she was the 3rd child of 6 children.
Barbara's thirst for knowledge led her to achieve a degree in engineering and multiple certificates, which helped her obtain employment with Eaton Corp and the prestigious Fermilab where she participated in important scientific research. She later decided to fulfill her desires to serve her community by working in environmental services for Good Samaritan Hospital and volunteering at her church for many years.
Barbara married Jeffrey Stephen Smith in 1981 whom preceded her in passing. Together they welcomed three children Rashaan Smith, Shakira Smith-Anderson and Syreeta Smith.
Barbara spent a great deal of her life helping others, not just in accordance with her strong faith in God but also because it was just in her nature to do so. She enjoyed sharing God's message with others and engaging in spirited debates on the subject. She was an avid collector of spiritual materials which she willingly shared with others she thought it would help or further expand their knowledge.
