Beatrice (Waddell) Redmond was born June 24, 1930 in Lexington, Mississippi to the late Frank and Annie (Pitchford) Waddell. She was called to rest on August 3, 2022 in Covington, Georgia where she passed peacefully listening to B.B. King’s Three O’ Clock Blues while holding her grandson, Raymond Daniels Jr. hand whom she lived with for the past 18 years.
Beatrice worked several jobs including domestic services, factory work, culinary work and she completed her career as a custodial maintenance employee retiring from Commonwealth Edison.
Beatrice was a woman who was gifted with many talents. Because she wanted her seven daughters’ hair to always look nice, Beatrice obtained her license as a beautician from Ella Mae’s School of Beauty. Beatrice was an excellent seamstress and made clothing for her children and others. She loved to quilt and belonged to a group of quilting ladies. On holidays, the Redmond household was the hospitality place where family met and ate some of the best down-home cooking. Beatrice was well-known for her German chocolate cakes, homemade blueberry cheesecakes, and peach cobblers.
Beatrice accepted Christ at an early age and along with her former husband, Harry, the two made sure their children attended church every Sunday with them. Beatrice was always active in church and in her later years she belonged to the Sr. Choir and Sunday School at her church in Covington, Georgia. She also belonged to an elegant group of sophisticated ladies who called themselves The Red Hats. Beatrice was truly a nurturing mother who supported all of her children in whatever they set out to do.
Beatrice was an advocate for a good education and made sure all eight graduated from high school and some went on to college. If she saw any type of talent in her children, she did all she could to help them pursue that talent. Beatrice was truly a mother who supported and nurtured her children.
Beatrice was preceded in death by both parents; former husband, Harry L. Redmond Sr, two sisters, Eula Waddell and Annie Mae Cohill; five brothers, J.D. (Buster), Frank, Willie (Duke), Booker T. (Mane) and Cassell; daughter, Bernice (Redmond) Betts, and grandson, Malik D. Sanders
Beatrice leaves to cherish her memories one brother, Earl Waddell; one son, Harry L. Redmond Jr; six daughters, Lillie (Percy, deceased) Harrison, Katherine (Bobby) Greenwood (Carthage, Mississippi), Delores (Raymond) Daniels, Marion Bankston, Gloria G. Orasco, and Regina Redmond; son-in-law, Demetrous (Bernice) Betts and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends. Beatrice will truly be missed.
