Berk Broadway Jr. Obituary

Berk L. “Junie” Broadway, Jr. was born December 3, 1958 in Joliet, Illinois to Berk Broadway, Sr. and the late Velma Broadway.  He transitioned into Eternity on Tuesday, May 4, 2021, at Joliet Area Community Hospice.

Berk attended Mt. Zion Baptist Church in later years, was baptized, and became a member of the Voices of Zion.

Berk attended Joliet Public Schools, and graduated from Joliet West High School in 1977.

Later Berk worked for the Will County Health Department for 14 year. He held the position of Public Health Educator, providing outreach and Health Education to the Will County Community. He especially loved the field work of his job.  It allowed him to interact with different people while also sharing his story to help others along the way.

Berk loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them whenever possible. He loved people and he enjoyed laughing and joking with everyone he encountered.

Berk never met a stranger; he knew someone everywhere he went.  To know him, was to love him.  You could always count on a fun time, conversation, and Berk to always pick up the check for dinner.  He had a generous heart and blessed so many. Throughout his illness, Berk remained his normal. happy, and joyous self.  We will miss these times, and cherish the fun loving memories we had with Berk “Junie”.

Berk was preceded in death by his mother, Velma Broadway; brother, Lawrence Jones; two sisters, Joyce Russell and Margaret Johnson; and two nephews, Duane (Dana) Russell and Curtis (Carla) Russell.

Berk leaves to cherish his loving memory to his loving father, Berk Broadway, Sr..; his niece, Andrea Broadway; nephew, Marcus Broadway; six great-nephews, Curtis Russell, Calvin Russell, Jaylin Stallings, Ryan Anderson, Russell Romero, Jr., Carter Moore-Russell; one great-niece, Kareena Russell; and a host of additional family and friends.
