Betty Hosey Obituary

Betty Sue Hosey was born on February 9, 1943, to Augusta and Lillie Del McNeal, in Duck Hill, MS. She was the tenth child of this union. She was called to her heavenly home on November 7, 2024. Sue understood that to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord.

In the early 196o's, after graduating from Montgomery County High School in Kilmichael, Mississippi, she was a part of the great migration move to the north where she joined her sisters in Joliet, IL. Sue committed her life to Christ at an early age, and continued her spiritual foundation, by joining Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church. She sang alto in the Greater United Choir, worked with the Women's Ministry and later served as a faithful Deaconess until her death. She was a fun-loving person who enjoyed baking cakes, family events, and spending time with her sisters. She was the kind of person who was willing to share whatever she had with whomever she met, and she did it with a smile.

Sue was a dedicated worker at American Institute and Mobil Chemical. She retired from Pactiv after 20 years of service. Unable to sit idle during retirement, she returned to the work force, but this time with a mission to serve. Sue joined the team at Cornerstone Services. This opportunity aided her to work with the purpose of helping those with special needs and disabilities.

Sue was a kind and dutiful wife, mother, sister, grandmother and great grandmother: She was an encourager, a prayer warrior, a woman of wisdom and she loved a good laugh.

In 1973 Sue married the late William R. Hosey and lived in Joliet, IL where they raised a beautiful family.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Gus and Lillie Dell, her siblings, Kely Ann Mc.Neal, Willie Mae Kirkwood, Ruth Eskridge, Mizella Edwards, O.D. McNeal, Ora Lee Holman, Robert McNeal, Ada Ulmer and Lucille Robinson.

She leaves to cherish precious memories: her two daughters Shelia Traylor and La Tasha Hosey; four sisters, Gladys Ulmer (John), Lela Reese, Louise Williamson, and Thelma Holman; one granddaughter, Megan Barefield, and three great grandchildren, Kaiden, Kameron, and Khalil and a special niece Patricia Kirkwood, along with a tribe of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
