Betty Joan Stalling-Kimbrough was born to Henry and Ollie Stalling (who preceded her in death) on August 31, 1940, in Phenix City, Alabama. In 1955, at the age of 15, she accepted Christ and was baptized at Bethlehem M.B. Church of Phenix City, AL. There, Betty served as a faithful member, getting involved in Sunday School, singing in the junior choir and becoming a part of the young matron mission. She graduated from Mother Mary Mission High School, in May of 1958 and worked as a Nurse Assistant.
Betty married her high school sweetheart, Charles Kimbrough, on June 8, 1958. To this union, five children were born. Charles and Betty were married for more than sixty years.
In 1970, Betty relocated to Chicago Illinois with her husband, and their family. Led by the Holy Spirit, she joined New Faith M.B. Church in April 1971 under the leadership of Reverend W.F. Basking. She served faithfully for many years as a member of the usher board, joining in the Late 70’s and served as the President for four years in the late 90s.
Betty was employed for over seven and a half years as a sales associate at Gately People Store in Chicago. She was very generous, a caregiver, and opened her doors to all. She enjoyed babysitting her grandchildren, neighbors and children from the church.
Betty went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, January 7, 2025. Her passing has left a profound, personal void in the hearts of her family and all those who loved her. The loss of Betty, who was preceded in death by her husband, Charles and her two sons, Bruce and Charles Jr. is deeply felt. She leaves a great legacy to cherish her memories: her daughters, Cathy (Kenneth) and Linda (Sean); one son, Derrick (Debra); daughter-in-law, Tonya; one special goddaughter, Tamika (Christopher); sixteen grandchildren, twenty four great-grandchildren and two god-grandchildren; three brothers, Henry (Lorene) Stallings of Phenix City AL, David (Beatrice) Stallings of Phenix City, AL, Fred Stallings of Tampa, FL; one sister, Hattie Lane of Phenix City, AL; two sisters-in-law, Elsie Miles of Phenix City, AL and Barbara Anderson of Columbus, GA.; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Her absence leaves a void that can never be filled. Betty’s presence was a blessing to all who knew her.
