With heartfelt love and deep gratitude for a life well lived, we celebrate the life of Bobby Herndon Bennett Sr., a devoted father, beloved partner, and cherished friend.
Born in Sunflower, Mississippi, Bobby grew up surrounded by the warmth of family and community. It was there he discovered a lifelong love for baseball and, more importantly, where he accepted Christ at a young age, grounding his life in faith and compassion. A proud graduate of Gentry High School, Class of 1965, Bobby went on to serve honorably in the United States Army. His time in service was cut short by an even greater call of duty—caring for his ailing mother.
Bobby later journeyed north to Chicago, Illinois, where his life took a beautiful turn. There, he met the love of his life, Barbara Jean Carradine. They were united in marriage on September 14, 1968. From their union came two children, Bobby Jr. and Bridget, whom he loved deeply and guided with love, strength and discipline.
He dedicated over three decades of his life to a fulfilling career at Reynolds, retiring after 32 years of loyal service. Yet Bobby's true legacy was not just in the work he did, but in the way he lived—with generosity, humility, and boundless warmth.
Bobby never met a stranger. His infectious smile, quick wit, and love for conversation drew people in. Whether offering a stranger a ride, lending a hand, or helping to pay for friend’s child’s tuition, Bobby gave from the heart—always. He had a playful spirit, a deep love for dancing, and was an enthusiastic fan of James Brown, often dancing to his music with joyfulbliss.
After the loss of his beloved wife, Barbara, Bobby found love again in his lifelong partner, Judith Trammell, with whom he shared many happy years. In 2002, he re-dedicated his life to Christ and shortly after, became an active and faithful member of Second Baptist Church, where he served joyfully in the janitorial ministry, and as a church van driver—duties he fulfilled faithfully until his health no longer allowed.
Bobby leaves behind a loving legacy in his children: Bobby Bennett Jr. (Debbie Bennett) of Dallas, TX, and Bridget Otero of Austin, TX; his devoted loving friend, Judith Trammell; grandchildren, Brianna Bennett, Ciara Bennett, Soriah Otero, Isaiah Bennett, Rene Otero, Caleb Otero, Aiden Otero, Ian Otero, and Jordan Otero; honorary grandson, Leonard L. Sago; and nine great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Patsy Carradine (Walker), eleven nieces and nephews, many great-nieces and nephews, his cherished bonus daughter, Alana Brown, and a host of extended family and lifelong friends.
He now joins in eternal rest his beloved wife, Barbara Carradine Bennett, his dear mother, Louise Herndon Fultz, sister, Elizabeth Nicholson, and precious grandson, Damariae Otero.
Bobby’s love, laughter, and unwavering kindness will remain etched in the hearts of all who knew him. His memory is a blessing, and his legacy lives on in the many lives he touched.
