Brenda L. Hester

Brenda L. Thomas-Hester was born February 6, 1970 to Lillie and Houston Thomas of Joliet, Illinois.  Brenda departed this life on Friday, May 9, 2025.

Brenda attended Joliet Public Schools and graduated from Joliet West High School.  She obtained her sanitation license and worked for the Department of Corrections.  She retired as a Direct Support Specialist.

Brenda was a strong woman, she said exactly what she wanted and you knew it.  She enjoyed cooking, spending time with her grandchildren, reading the bible and making sure A & B had what they needed at all times.  She could sing like an angel, she would always know what was going on in our family before you and would always make sure you were okay.  Her best advice was pray baby, just pray.

Brenda was preceded in death by her parents, Lillie and Houston Thomas; maternal grandparents, Wilma and Sylvester Lindsey; paternal grandparents, Spurgeon and Bessie Thomas; brother, Deondre Patrick Thomas; aunts, Margie Nell Lindsey, Dossie Gray, Argelle Moore, Hattie Robertson, Geneva Williams and Eliza Bell Foster; uncles, Virgil Thomas, Glen Thomas Sr., William Lindsey, Levester Lindsey, Pastor Chester Lindsey, James William Lindsey, Napoleon Lindsey and Rev. Alexander Lindsey.

Brenda leaves to cherish her memories; two daughters, Andrea Hester and Brittany Hester; one adopted daughter, Jasonda Reed; two special sons, Corvelle Johnson and Carlos Sims; three grandchildren, Kaylie Smith, Caliyah Johnson and Cali Johnson; brother, Houston L. Thomas Jr. (Cicely); a sister, Cassandra (Avery) Dorris; nephews, Douglas (Alessia) Dorris, Kevon Dorris, Darnell (Danielle) Thomas, Daniel Thomas, Houston III (Kary) Thomas, Dillon Thomas, Jamir Thomas, Deandre Thomas Jr., and Deandre Thomas III; nieces, Danielle (Rodney) Lee, Antwanette Thomas, Nikia Thomas, Linnea Thomas, and Tiondra Thomas; great nephews, Elijah Lee, and Daniel L. Thomas Jr.,; great nieces, Airyanna Dorris, Amia Dorris, Aria Dorris, Capria McKinnis, and Amiyah Thomas; god daughter, Jacqueline Campbell; special cousin, Cookie Lindsey and special friends, Evangelist Jacqueline Curry-Liggins, Lashell (Stan) Abbott, Archie Robinson, Cathy Zion and a host of cousins and friends.
