Loving Memory of C.Z. Moffett
October 3, 1935 – June 14, 2026
C.Z. Moffett passed away peacefully on June 14, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family.
Born on October 3, 1935, in Smith County, Mississippi, C.Z. was the son of the late Carzell and Mayola (Washington) Moffett. He attended school in Mississippi and confessed his faith in Christ at an early age. Later in life, C.Z. relocated to Joliet, Illinois, where married the absolute love of his life, Lela (Ellis).
A man of dedicated work ethic, C.Z. spent over 30 years at GAF, where he eventually retired from his role as a Former. Because retirement couldn't keep him still for long, he returned to the workforce at Global Roofing, dedicating several more years of hard work before officially retiring for a second time.
Outside of work, C.Z. found great joy in the simple pleasures of life. He loved gardening, relaxing outdoors, and catching up with family and friends. One of his absolute favorite pastimes was taking drives to check on his loved ones. He was a familiar and comforting sight around town, often seen passing by or turning a familiar corner. If you managed to catch his eye before he drove past, he would always pull over to chat for a few minutes before continuing on his rounds to look after those he cared about.
C.Z. was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Lela (Ellis); his sons, Raymond and Michael Moffett; his grandsons, Randy Autman (Moffett), Phillip O’Large, and Demetrious Moffett; his brothers, Quitman (Annie), Jacob, and Milton (Ruthie) Moffett; and his sisters, Terica Ervin and Johnny Louise Lamb.
He leaves to cherish his memory: his son, Curtis Moffett; his daughters, Debra Hoskins, Denise O’Large, Renee, Vernice, and Sheila Moffett of Joliet, IL; sisters, Mary Reed of Raleigh, MS and Geneva Burke of Forest, MS, Charlyne (late Jacob) Moffett of Joliet, IL and brother, Carl Moffett of Joliet, IL, Carl (late Johnny Louise) Lamb of Forest, MS; twenty grandchildren; a host of precious great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; as well as many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
