Callie Smith Obituary

Callie Mae Wilson-Smith, graced this world on July 24, 1929. She returned to her Heavenly home on Tuesday, April 6, 2021 in Kankakee, Illinois. 

Callie was the oldest of seven children.  She is preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Addie C. Singleton; three brothers, Charlie Curtis Wilson, William Nathan Wilson, and James Ollie Wilson; and one son, Larry D. McGhee.

She accepted Christ at early age and continued in her faith.  She was a member of St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church in Chicago, Illinois under the leadership of Rev. Bill Smith, Jr.  Callie enjoyed being on the Mother’s Board for each church she attended and just loved worship service.  She also loved helping in any way she possibly could.

Callie was employed by two well-known companies; United States Postal Service and Tootsie Roll Candy Company. She later served as a nurse for a number of years.  

Callie leaves to cherish her sweet memories; a devoted family, three daughters, Justine McGhee, Addie C. McGhee, and Dana Smith- Gray; two sons, Kenny W. Smith and Joseph McGhee; two sisters, Earmie Wilson and Johnnie P. Merriweather; nine grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren; a host of other relatives and friends.
