Carl “Bunny” Barefield was born March 26, 1967 to Carl Jordan and Helen (nee Barefield) Helms in Joliet, Illinois. He was the oldest child of five siblings. Carl departed this life May 25, 2022 at his home.
Carl attended Joliet District 86 Public Schools and graduated from Joliet Central High School. He was in the band from grade school through high school, playing the saxophone. Loving sports, he played football and wrestled in high school. After graduation, he was accepted into the Local 422 Union plumbing apprentice program and later received his plumbing and pipefitting license. After working a few years for several union plumbing companies, Carl started his own business, C&M Plumbing. Carl was a life-long member of All Nations Church of God in Christ.
Carl married right after high school and fathered four children: Janarl, Jannice, Joseph R., and Jonathan Barefield. In 1995, Carl met the love of his life, Marilyn Peten. They married in March of 2014. To this union, two daughters were born, Monica and Alexis Barefield; and two bonus children, Lytecia and Desmond Hill.
Carl is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents; maternal grandparents; father, Carl Jordan; bonus father, Booker Helms; one brother, Bruce Barefield; and one grandson, Julius Rogers.
He leaves to cherish his memories: his loving wife, Marilyn (nee Peten) Barefield; three sons, Janarl Cartwright, Joseph R. (Shante), and Jonathan Barefield; three daughters, Jannice, Monica, and Alexis Barefield; one bonus son, Desmond Hill; and one bonus daughter, Lytecia Hill, all of Joliet, IL; mother, Helen Helms; nine grandchildren, Syria Hervey, Janarl Cartwright, Jr., Jonathan Barefield, Jr., Jayden Hull, Haven Barefield, Jamier Hill, Journee Nelson, Jedidiah Cartwright, and Jordan Barefield; three sisters, Elaine (Shaun) Sanderson, Jerhaun Cameron, and Jennifer (Shondell) Morris; five brothers, Pastor Dwayne Barefield, Delvin (Tashia), Daren, Dexter (Nicole), and Eric Jordan; bonus mother, Mae Jordan; numerous special uncles and aunts, and a host of other relatives and friends.
