Carl Ferrell Obituary

Mr. Carl Vincent Ferrell A.K.A Fast Eddie, A.K.A. DIP, Pops, Dad, Grandpa, Unk etc, was born September 14, 1949 to Carrie Mae (Blakely) Ferrell and James Orrion Ferrell. He was the third of four children. He was raised on the southside of Chicago in Bronzeville and later the Tuley Park area.

He Graduated from Hales Franciscan High School in 1968, He briefly attended Luke Jr. College before being drafted during the Vietnam era. He was a member of the Army National Guard and later the U.S. ARMY.

Upon returning home from his tour in 1975 he enrolled at Chicago State University, Carl majored in Urban Planning and received a B.A. in Geography in 1979. Carl also became a member of the WINE Psi Phi social service organization.  Carl was also a professional chess and card player.

He Married Ella Word December 31, 1979, and three children were born from that union; his first child and only son, Karl A. Ferrell was born April 11th of 1980. In the years to follow Carl and Ella would birth two more children, Pamela Jean Ferrell January 3, 1985, and Rose Anne Ferrell March 16, 1987.

He also started his career at the U.S. Railroad Retirement Board in 1980 - 2000.

Throughout the years Carl would coach little league baseball and engaged in numerous activities with his children and family. He was a wholehearted Chicago White Sox fan and Chicago Bears enthusiast. A life lesson teacher, analytical advisor, philosopher, comedian, father, friend, and all-around great guy. To know him is to love him. He could do anything with nothing and would give you the shirt off his back.

He left us suddenly October 30, 2023, peacefully at home, and is preceded in death by his parents, Carrie Mae and James Orrion Ferrell,; his daughter, Pamela Jean; his siblings, Buford, Jean, and Sonja. Uncle Jake Ferrell, and Auntie Ruthie Ferrell.

He is survived by two children; his son, Karl Ferrell; daughter, Rose (Benjamin) Wilber, and six grandchildren, Kania Ferrell, Savion Thornton-Ferrell, Isaiah Ferrell, Karl Ferrell Jr., Josiah Wilber, Elizabeth Wilber; special friend, Zena Wright and family, Francesca Wright, Lorie Wright, Alexis Wright and Lennell Berry, and a host of family and friends.
