Carl "Dunk" Johnson Obituary

Carl "Dunk" Johnson, aged 61, was called to his eternal rest on July 6, 2024, in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Born to this earthly realm on February 27, 1963, in Joliet, Will County, Illinois, Carl walked a path of humility, love, and unwavering faith throughout his 61 years of life. A beacon of light in the lives of all who knew him, Carl's spirit was a testament to his deep and abiding faith. He served the Lord with gladness, embodying the virtues of kindness, generosity, and compassion. Carl's concern for others shone brightly, even amidst his own trials, reflecting a heart full of grace and a soul devoted to the service of God's creation.

In his most recent professional life, Carl was a steward of his church, Abundant Life, serving as a custodian with a spirit of gratitude and reverence. His work was more than a job; it was a ministry of maintaining a sacred space where fellow believers could come to find peace and solace. Carl's life was a symphony of joyful moments, shared generously with his grandchildren, whom he treasured as precious gifts from above. His hobbies, from fishing to handywork, were pursued with a sense of wonder at the beauty of creation and the simple pleasures it afforded.

Left to honor Carl's memory are his beloved daughter Andrea (Lloyd) and his cherished grandchildren Leilani, Makaia, Lloyd Z. "Mr. Man," and Liam. Carl's legacy will also live on through his siblings Wongie Johnson, Savannah "Ann" Johnson, Angela (Bernard) Stevenson, Rita (Andre) Agee, and Sylvia (Willie) Digby; and a lineage of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. A host of special cousins and extended family members join in mourning his passing while celebrating the love he shared.

Carl now joins the heavenly choir with his parents, Lewis D. Johnson, Sr. and Thelma (Buckner) Johnson; his brother Lewis D. Johnson, Jr.; and his cherished aunts, uncles, and a nephew who preceded him in death.

A service of remembrance and celebration of Carl's life will be held at his spiritual home, Abundant Life Church, shepherded by Pastor Richard Brown, at 3301 E. Coliseum Blvd, Fort Wayne, IN 46805. Nelson's Memorial Gardens in Fort Wayne, Indiana, will accompany Carl's family as they navigate this time of transition. In Carl "Dunk" Johnson's memory, we are reminded to live each day in fullness, with hearts of service and a spirit of joy, just as he did. His journey on earth may have concluded, but his story continues in the lives he touched and the love he spread, a testament to a life well-lived in the eyes of the Lord.
