Mrs. Carrie Beatrice Harris (nee Dickens), daughter of the late Rev. Leroy Dickens and Lula Dickens, was born on November 20, 1942 in Uniontown, Alabama. Known affectionately as "Doll" by her family, she was the ninth of twelve Dicken siblings. She would profess her faith in Jesus Christ at an early age, joining Mount Moriah Baptist Church.
She attended the public schools of Uniontown and was a graduate of Perry County Training School. Shortly after high school graduation, Carrie would follow several of her siblings, moving to the Windy City of Chicago, Illinois. While in Chicago, she would eventually start working at Zenith Radio Company in 1967 where should would remain employed for 17 years.
In 1974, she was united in holy matrimony to Bennie Harris Jr. This union was blessed with one child, Bennie Harris III. The family would remain in Chicago until 1984, when they would relocate to Indianapolis IN. While in Indianapolis, she would become employed as an accountant for the United States Federal Government (DFAS). She would remain employed there until her retirement in 2011.
In Indianpolis, she attended Faith COGIC and COGIC Robinson Temple. She was a passionate speaker and would become ordained as a missionary and evangelist. Carrie loved gardening and was a great cook. She also loved to help people and was an avid community volunteer. She was active with American Legion. From this community involvement, she would forge many solid friendships and bless a lot of people.
Carrie's husband, Bennie Harris Jr., would precede her in death in 1999. However, in 2012, she would remarry, joining Elder Morris Marshall Sr. in holy matrimony. He would also precede her in death in 2017.
Carrie was part of a large family and would be preceded in death by her four sisters, Pinkie, Hattie, Mary Kate and Clara; and four brothers, Oliver (Nick) Robert, Leroy and Collie.
She departed this life on March 11, 2025. She leaves to cherish her memory; one son, Bennie Harris III; six step-children, Brenda Dorsey of Dallas, TX, Esther Brown of Milwaukee, WI, Leonard Marshall of MI and LaMonica Brown of Atlanta, GA; two sisters, Lula Dickens of Richton Park, ILL and Allen Naide of Dolton IL; one brother, Perry Dickens (Celine) of Brighton AL and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Carrie will be greatly missed by her loving family and ear friends. May God grant her eternal peace.
