Carrie Mae Perry was born on February 8, 1947, in Louin, MS to the late Oscar and Ola Mae Thomspon. She was affectionately known as “Mama Carrie” to everyone she came in contact with.
She peacefully departed this life on Wednesday, September 13, 2023, in the comfort of her home surrounded by family.
She gave her life to Christ at an early age at Hopewell Baptist Church. She moved to Joliet, IL in 1963. Once in Joliet, she became a member of the St. Paul M B. Church under the leadership of Pastor Wright. She was very involved in different ministries with St. Paul. She was a part of the Mission Ministry, the Infamous Kitchen Ministry, the WE Ministry, as well as being a Trustee on the Executive Board. However, her greatest joys came from singing in the choir and working with the youth. She was a staple in the soprano section until the decline of her health. She gave her all to the youth of St. Paul and served as the Youth Advisor for many years. She was instrumental in starting the Praise Dance team.
Other than being involved in ministry, she was an amazing cook. She showed her love through food. There wasn’t a person she encountered that she didn’t try to feed. She cooked for people all over Joliet and even sent food to different states. She was especially known for her peach cobbler and church punch.
She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and aunt. She would give you the shirt off her back even if she fussed in the process.
