Daniel Wright Sr., affectionately known as “Dan”, was born on May 3, 1936 to Daniel and Mamie Wright in Chicago, Illinois.
Dan attended Chicago Vocational High School, graduating in 1953. Dan entered the United States Air Force in 1954. He served his country for four years as an Air Force police officer, and received an honorable discharge from the United States Air Force.
Dan worked for United Steel Mill for several years. He retired from General Motors where he worked as a welder for 30 years.
Dan attended Kennedy King College where he majored in HVAC. He also went to school to hone his carpentry skills. Although he was a novice in this area, it was hard to deny his skill, as he made some memorable furniture pieces.
Dan married the love of his life, Eloise Arnold, who he called “Ella” on July 26, 1975. They celebrated forty-nine years of marriage together.
Dan’s hobbies were fishing, bowling, golfing, and wine making. He enjoyed spending time with his family and hosted a Christmas Eve party annually, He was also a grill master and passed his culinary skills to his family.
Dan traveled extensively, and he always had a story to tell in regards to almost every subject. He was the conversationalist who had an infectious spirit and a million dollar smile. There was never a dull moment shared in his presence. Dan’s “gift of gab” and charismatic personality charmed those around him, and people gravitated to him.
Dan leaves to cherish memories of him to his wife, lover, and friend, Eloise “Ella” Wright; his two daughters, Debbie Chapman and Crystal Wright; one son, Daniel Wright Jr. (Angie); three bonus children, Latanga Galvin, Wayne Williams, and Tracie Jamison; his sister, Dorothy McDade of Austell, Georgia; four sisters-in-law, Lottie Wright of Columbia, South Carolina; Susie Carlos, Emma Arnold, and Francine Hardy; and brother-in-law, Benjamin Arnold (Sherrie); six grandsons, Martinez Jr., Christopher Daniel, Bryan Anthony Masaji, Chad Allen, Damonta, and Daniel III; and three great-grandchildren, Raiden Daichi, Skylar Uriell, and Nami Sayuri; and a plethora of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Dan had four brothers that preceded him in death, Bennie Newman, Freddie Newman, Orville Wright, and Mellot Wright.
