Dante’ Buchanan Obituary

Dante’ Terreyl Buchanan was born to Etta Buchanan in Chicago, Illinois on June 6, 1970 at Presbyterian St. Luke Hospital. He was the eldest of three, and attended Westinghouse High School and Collins High School on the westside of Chicago.  Dante was introduced to Christ at an early age, and attended Greater Faith Temple C.O.G.I.C under the auspices of the late Pastor Raymond and Mother Marian Scott.  He enjoyed playing the drums and later attended True Holiness C.O.G.I.C with his grandmother, Mother Antoinette Woods who preceded him in death.

Although he experienced some challenges with the law, he later became a strong advocate of non-violence and pursued his passion as a Counselor at the Institute of Nonviolence.  He was a liaison between the community and police force, and assisted families who experienced traumas due to violence in the city.  Many knew him for his tender heart, ability to console others, and his REAL or straight forward conversations to help steer young men in the right direction.

Dante was the life of the party and enjoyed having a good time. He was a huge proponent of family, and to say that he loved his family is an understatement.  No matter how young or how old, he had a way of connecting with people and showing them love even when others believed it wasn’t deserved.  He was a loving son, father, uncle, cousin, friend and brother to so many people.

Dante was loved by everyone that met him.  To know him was to love him, and those that knew him knew he had a heart of gold, and would give all that he had to those he loved. His sister, Pearl Buchanan preceded  him in death and he leaves to cherish his memory, his mother, Etta Buchanan, brother, Keenan Buchanan (Irene), daughters, Taylor Buchanan (Thomas) and Quiniece Brown, and sons, Quartez Thomas, Quintrell Thomas, Patrick Adair, Shivonte’ Thomas, Dante’ Terreyl Buchanan, Jr., Damarte’ Buchanan, and a host of aunties, nieces, uncles, relatives, and friends.
