Deborah Glenn Obituary

Deborah Ann Glenn (affectionately known as Deb Glenn & “DG”) was born on July 2, 1963, to birth parents Aritha “Gail” Francine Woods and James Curry in Joliet, Illinois. As a baby, Deborah was adopted and raised by her loving parents Leroy and Mary Glenn.

Deborah accepted Christ at an early age and was a devoted and faithful member of Brown Chapel A.M.E. Church in Joliet, IL. Deborah was the Director of YPD, Young People’s Division, for over twenty years. She was also a part of the Rebecca A. Dishman Missionary Society, a Trustee, member of LAY organization and Christian Education Board, and a part of the Allen Theater Ministry as “Felicia Fontaine” at Brown Chapel A.M.E. Church. She was drawn to the youth, and they affectionately called her Ms. Glenn. Deborah truly held a special place in her heart for children. She went above and beyond to help them in any way that she could. Deborah was also a great friend to so many. She was consistent, dependable, and always just a phone call away. If they called, they could count on Deborah to show up for them. Deborah also made a significant impact on her community. Everyone knew Deborah Glenn. Deborah always had a big smile on her face, was laughing, and talking to anyone that she met; no one was truly a stranger to Deborah. She had the unique ability to make everyone feel loved by her.

Deborah attended St. Francis Academy, now known as Joliet Catholic Academy (JCA) and was a proud graduate of the class of 1981. She later graduated from Trainco Business School in 1990.

Deborah was not only a very hard worker but also was loyal to any company where she worked. She was employed at Kohl’s Department Store for nearly twenty years. Her co-workers became family and “her customers” became friends. She organized regular gatherings with past and present co-workers and even attended funerals of their loved ones. Deborah loved them all and they loved her. Deborah also was employed with the YMCA for the past year, where she continued to fulfill her passion with working with the youth.

In her spare time, she kept a busy schedule. While she was always double booked, she always did her best to show up for everyone. She enjoyed traveling to Georgia to visit her daughter and son-in-law. In addition to that, she enjoyed dancing, hanging out with friends, and most importantly shopping for the latest deals.

Deborah peacefully and quietly passed to the Heavenly Reward on Thursday, May 2nd at Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox, IL surrounded by close friends and family.

Deborah was preceded in death by her parents, Aritha “Gail” Francine Woods and Leroy and Mary Glenn, her brother, Tyrone Woods, and her “good bud” Michelle Bills.

Deborah leaves to cherish in her memory her beloved daughter, Tiffany (Miles) Davis, her father, James Curry; brothers; Novel Woods, Karl Curry, and Kedzie (Tonya) Curry, her sisters; Cheryl Woods, Lily Woods, Kathleen (Chris) Cartwright, Kawana (Jeffery) Curry-Wires, and Maggie Johnson. She will be forever cherished by her God-children, Domont Bills and Jariessa Jackson, a special cousin, Nisha Woods, favorite aunt, Shirley Grant, special nephews; Austin Woods, and Courtney Norris, a special niece, Tasha (Howard) Snapp, special sisters, Yolanda Norris, Carol (Demetrius) Snapp, a forever sister-in law, Linda (Samuel) Woods-Adams, and special friends; Freddie Green, LaVerne (Darwin) Baxter, Dedee Broadway, Monica (Shawn) Stevens, and Debra McDonald. She will always hold a special place in the hearts of her nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, and friends. The entire Brown Chapel A.M.E. Church and her co-workers at Kohl’s will miss her greatly.
