Dennis Coggins Obituary

Dennis Lee Coggins was born on December 22, 1961 in Clarksdale, Mississippi to Odessa Huggins and Earnest Coggins, Sr.  He dedicated his life to being a devoted husband, father, son, brother, uncle and friend.  Her cherished spending quality time with loved ones; lending a help handing, fixing things around the house, exporting new hobbies and traveling.

As a student athlete at Joliet East High School, Dennis competed on the wrestling team and after graduation enlisted in the United States Army where he served a three-year term in Germany.  He was a jack-of-all-trades and indulged in roles that required technical skill-sets like electrical mechanics and trucking.  He earned certification in heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) from Joliet Junior College and spent a few of his latter years working at the US. Energy company in Engineering.

Dennis was a member of Christ Temple Apostolic Faith Church in Joliet, Illinois for more than 40 years under the leadership of Bishop J.E. Moore.  He was baptized in Jesus' name early on and as a teen received the gift of the Holy Ghost.  He served the ministry with resilience and compassion and led the audio engineering team for two decades.  Dennis loved much and had an uncanny ability to quickly grasp how to play saxophone and clarinet.  He was adamant and devout in his walk with Christ and found joy in sharing his faith with everyone he encountered.

Dennis was preceded in death by his father, Earnest Coggins, Sr. and step-father, Deacon Wade Huggins.

In 2002, Dennis met Nicole Adams and the two married in June 2003.  Over the last 17 years Dennis and Nicole built a faithful and loving union; both leading the relationship with love, understanding and compassion - creating a host of memories for Nicole to preserve for years to come.  Dennis was a loving father of four and an endearing father-in-law and grandfather (a.k.a. paw-paw) of five. All of whom he leaves to cherish his memory; one son, Arick; three daughters, Kaliah (Chris), Keyanda (Eric) and Elizabeth; and grandchildren, Carine, Chris Jr., Camden, Carsen and Evan.

He is survived by his wife, Nicole Coggins; mother, Odessa Huggins; children, grandchildren; five brothers, Earnest Jr., Bobby, Chris, Timothy and Jarryd; two sisters, Charlotte and Sherry Lynn and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
