Deon Dantrell Dumas-Woodson was born on June 8, 1994, in Arlington Heights, Illinois to Verness Woodson and Walter (Pete) Dumas (preceded in death). As the oldest child, he played an integral role in his family’s life providing leadership, love, and support to his younger brother Devon Dumas.
Deon’s passion for sports and academics was evident throughout his early life. He graduated from Jay Stream Middle School in 2009, where he played basketball from 2008 to 2009. He then attended Glenbard North High School before transferring to Glenbard West High School, where he graduated in 2013. His athletic accomplishments were numerous, including playing for the Glenbard North Panthers Football Team from 2010 to 2011, and later, being part of the Glenbard West Hitter Football team that won the Class 7A State Championship in 2012. Deon was also recognized with a Certificate of Recognition from the Glenbard West Football Team for his contribution to the championship victory.
From 2004 to 2009, he participated in various sports through the Carol Stream Park District, playing softball and baseball. Deon also enjoyed playing with the Carol Stream Youth Football Team and was a member of the Jayhawk Trailblazers Basketball Team. His dedication to athletics was exemplified in his leadership and skill, which earned him numerous accolades and friendships throughout his life.
Deon’s work ethic and ambition were reflected in his career path. He worked with several companies as a truck driver over the years, including FedEx, SRU Electric, Inc. and Junk King, gaining valuable experience and developing a reputation for being a dedicated and hardworking individual. Since 2021, he had been employed as an over-the-road and local truck driver for Schneider in Gary, Indiana, a role that showcased his commitment to providing for himself and his family.
In addition to his career, Deon was a co-founder and president of the Heavy Hitters Car Club, which was established in 2019 with the founder, Austin; CEO, Nunu; Vice President, TY; and Prospect Manager, Jabari. As a leader of the club, Deon found a community of like-minded individuals who shared his passion for cars, camaraderie, and making memories.
Deon’s legacy extends far beyond his professional and athletic achievements. He was a compassionate, loyal, and charismatic individual who brought joy to everyone he encountered. His smile, humor, and infectious energy left an imprint on the hearts of many. Deon’s family, friends, and all who knew him will remember him as someone who made a difference in their lives, whether it was through his friendship, leadership, or his genuine care for others.
His passing leaves a void in the lives of all who loved him, but his spirit will live on in the memories he created and the lives he’d touched. As we mourn his loss, we also celebrate his life and the incredible impact he had in such a short time.
He is survived by his devoted mother, Verness Woodson; brother Devon Dumas; grandmothers Bettie Woodson and Terrie Jean Dumas; godfathers Jackie Dumas and Price Dumas; uncles Larry Battle (Belinda), Willie B. Woodson, Jr. (Latanya), aunts Alma Annette Willis (Herbert Willis preceded in death), Patricia Woodson, Laculia (Queenie) Woodson (preceded in death), Colonise Wilkins, Beronica Woodson, and Wanda Dumas-Childress (preceded in death), and a host of cousins, extended family, and countless friends. Deon was also preceded in death by his grandfather’s Willie B. Woodson, Sr. and Walter Halums, II.
