Desire Pool Obituary

“Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.” Matthew 5:4 NIV

On January 22, 1983, Desire Nicole Pool was born to Patricia Gordon and Andrew Davis in Chicago, Illinois. She accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age, attending Zion Travelers Missionary Baptist Church and New Faith Baptist Church International.

Nicole was educated in the Chicago Public School System. She attended Bogan High School and later received her GED. Her passion for helping people heal led her into the field of nursing. She obtained her BSN from Chamberlain University in February 2020. While working at Holy Cross Hospital and University of Chicago Medicine in Chicago, Illinois, her love for nursing continued to grow. In August 2020, she relocated to San Antonio, Texas, where she continued her work in the nursing field. Nicole’s dedication to helping people extended beyond healthcare facilities; she also worked at Goodwill while making plans to return to school to become a Nurse Practitioner.

The job that Nicole loved the absolute most, was being a mother to her four children; three boys, Davion, Christian, and Jalen and her only daughter, Genesis. She was crazy about her children, a true mama bear who protected her cubs. Nicole would want her family and friends to always remind her children how much she loved them.

To know Nicole was to love her, she lit up EVERY room she entered, with her infectious smile, laughter, humor, confidence, and her overall outgoing personality. There was never a dull moment with her around, a good time was sure to be had. She could never keep a straight face during Granny’s Thanksgiving dinner prayers, her or Tricia being one of the first to be kicked out until prayer was finished.

Nicole was a happy person that loved life, it was very rare for her to be sad about anything, she would find a reason to laugh at everything, including herself. She lived her life without regret and made the best of every situation she encountered. She persevered through life’s obstacles with faith, tenacity and humor.

On Friday, September 20, 2024, in Houston, Texas, we lost a beloved mother, daughter, sister, cousin, niece and friend. She is preceded in death by her grandparents; Lee Early Gordon Sr. and Jessie Mae Gordon, her stepfather, Edward Barnes, and aunt, Delvory Pauldon.

She leaves to cherish her memory her mother, Patricia Gordon-Barnes, her children; Davion Johnson, Christian Gary, Jalen Gary, and daughter, Genesis McDaniel, her brother, Bilal Barnes, her sister, Divine Braboy, aunts, Janice Spencer (Devel) and Terri Gordon, uncles, Lee “June” Gordon Jr. (Selena), James “Honcho” Gordon, and Alfred Gordon, great-uncle, Alfred Smith (Corinea), special friends, Regina Neal, Mike Holder and David Gantt, along with a host of other aunts, uncles, cousins, friends and loved ones.
