Desmond Moore Campbell was born on March 15, 1967 in Kingston, Jamaica, West Indies, and transitioned from the life on January 20, 2026.
In the late 1970s, the family migrated to the United States and settled in New Jersey where Desmond was lovingly raised by his parents, Lorna and Arthur. Growing up in Princeton, Desmond attended Passaic County Vocational Technical High School where he developed a love for the trades.
Through years of formal and informal training, Desmond excelled in building and ground maintenance and if you really knew him, he was passionate about cooking. These two things were foundational personally and professionally.
Desmond's heart and joy was anchored in his children and grandchildren; Katherine (Kieara, Kasaan, Zy'Mair, Ke'Niya, A'Niya), Desmond (Zhuri and Desmond III) and Jonathon (Saige). His heart's desire was for them to know and experience love and prosperity. This desire was strongly rooted in the love of his parents and extended family.
Desmond had a successful career with Chicago Public Schools which spanned over 23 years. His most recent appointment was to Medgar Evers Fine & Performing Arts School. His dedication to his work and his genuine care for the students, faculty and staff made him a valued member of the school community.
Beyond his professional life, Desmond was passionate about cooking and seeing others enjoy his creations - especially jerked chicken. He cherished his family, loved, spending time watching movies, a loyal Chicago Bears fan and an avid practical joker - April Fools was among his favorite days! Known for his infectious sense of humor, Desmond has a unique talent for making others laugh. He maintained a strong sense of chivalry and friendship that will remain in many hearts today and always.
Desmond's legacy is one of love, laughter, and unwavering support for those he cared about. His spirit and humor will continue to inspire all who knew him. Though he is no longer with us in body, his memory will forever live on in our hearts.
Rest in peace, Desmond. Your journey has ended, but your memory will endure. We love you, we miss you, and we will carry you in our hearts.
