Dolly G. Montford was known to everyone as Miss Dolly. She was born March 13, 1951 to the late Caroline and Howard Potter, Sr. in Trenton, New Jersey. Dolly was educated in the Trenton Public School system, then relocated to Illinois in her adult life. Dolly was a great caretaker. She loved taking care of others. For many years, Dolly worked as a caregiver at Sunny Hill Nursing Home and Ascension Living Villa Franciscan Place in Joliet. Her most valued position of all was caring for her beloved, the late Helen Voolach, who became a staple in Dolly’s life.
Dolly later joined St. John Missionary Baptist Church where she greatly admired her pastor, Herbert Brooks Jr. Even at church Dolly cared for others joining the St. John Nurses Ministry.
In her leisure time Dolly throughly enjoyed being glamorous and jazzy. She loved shopping and being pampered. She made sure she kept her hair and nails done and stayed dressed to the tee.
Dolly is now reunited with her parents, Howard and Caroline Potter, Sr.; her brothers, Howard Potter Jr., Dwight C. Potter, and Lawerence Potter. She is also preceded in death by her beloved friends, Helen Voolach, Dr. Albert W. Ray, Jr. and her puppies, Darlene and Jaylene whom she referred to as “Her Girls.”
Dolly answered the Master’s call on Saturday, October 19, 2024 surrounded by people she loved.
Dolly’s joyous and jolly spirit will truly be missed and forever cherished by her sister, Louise Potter (Trenton, New Jersey) and brother, Randolph Potter (Florida); two nieces, Edwinna and Erin Potter (Trenton, New Jersey); god-son, Derrick L. Gildon; her life-long friends, Joann Berry, Rose Walker, Linda Carter, Betty Staley and Kay Ray; her caregiver, Gwendolyn Brooks. Her very special friend and beautician, Sharda “Coco” Dickson; loving friend, Laurie Jones-Veasy; and a host of church family and friends. Her care team of doctors and nurses.
