Doranna Slaton Obituary

Doranna Delois was born in Chicago, Illinois on July 15, 1966 to Ethel and Lester Jefferson, who both preceded her in death. Doranna was the youngest of four. Her eldest brother Chester also preceded her in death.

She attended Van Vlissingen Elementary School, Chicago Vocational High School (Class of ’84) and Loyola University where she studied to become a neurosurgeon and Pivot Point Cosmetology School.

Dee Dee worked several jobs including AON and United Way. She was always working and/or going to school. She received her Cosmetology License and then went on to Mortuary School. Mortuary school didn’t last long once she thought she saw a gurney with a body on it move by itself.

Her passion was reading and enjoying food. Her warm smile and personality made it easy for her to connect with others. Anyone who knew her knew that her greatest passion was eating and drinking coffee ALL day. She always wanted to watch Gayle cook so that she could learn the recipe but never cooked.

She accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age. Dee was passionate about her Faith in the Lord. Dee had been a faithful member of Messiah Temple MBC under the leadership of the late Dr. B. S. Saulsby and then Pastor Keith B. McGee. After being invited to visit New Faith MBC, she met her soul mate, Deacon Arthur Slaton who preceded her in death. She joined New Faith MBC under the leadership of Pastor Howard Randolph and later married Dec. Slaton. She called him her “Hunny Bunny”. She was a member of the Deaconess Board until Arthur’s health failed and they had to leave the church. No children were born of this union.

After her health stared to decline, she knew that she needed to get back in the word. She was looking for a small congregation to worship with. She was attending Love of Christ Mission Church and later joined under the leadership of the late Pastor Herbert Muldrow. Dee fell in love with “Pastor” when she discovered that the man that was preaching and teaching was blind.  She realized that her issues were small and if he could press on, she could too. When Pastor Kevin Muldrow became her new pastor, she used the energy and passion that his father had installed in her to encourage him.

Dee Dee didn’t have her own children but loved her nieces and nephews as her own. She loved her church and her church family and was always willing to do what she could to help anyone.

She leaves to cherish the memories of her life: Her stepmother Patricia, one sister Gayle, one brother Vernon, three stepbrothers, Lerrin (Las Vegas), Antwan (California) and Jonathon, five nephews, Winston, Christopher, Craig, DeNauld, Maurice,  two nieces, Keena, Chalamar, eight great-nephews, five great-nieces, three great-great nephews, one great-great niece, one aunt, one uncle, three special friends Kevin, Karen, Danny, and a host of  cousins and friends.
