Dorothy J. Henderson was born October 12, 1935 in Bay Springs, Mississippi to Georgia J. and Maxine (nee Chapman) Millsap.  Dorothy went home to be with the Lord on December 2, 2021.

Dorothy was the eldest of six children.

Dorothy graduated from Bay Springs Colored Vocational High School in 1954, then moved to Joliet, Illinois.

Dorothy received her Bachelor's Degree in Behavioral Science in 1981 from the National College of Education.  ⁰

Dorothy accepted Christ at an early age. She attended Central Presbyterian Church where she became a Deacon as well as a high-ranking member of the Presbyterian Session during which time she traveled to many countries for missionary ministry.

Dorothy pursued a career in social work with the Illinios Department of Children and Family Services.  During her time with DCFS she was responsible for recruiting foster care facilities.  Dorothy also worked as a Director of Supplement Security Income Alert Program (SSI).

Dorothy later enjoyed substitute teaching in the Joliet Public School System and volunteering at the Rialto Theater.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents Georgia J. and Maxine Millsap; her two brothers Sellas and Leroy Millsap; her three sisters Melva Ducksworth-Jukes, Ernestine (Tina) Thompson and Erma M. Shelby; her Son Keith Henderson; her nephew Greg Ducksworth; her neices Shantel (Shelby) Bouie, Monica (Shelby) McClain, Renee Ducksworth; her great nephew McKinley Ducksworth; her Great grandson Stevon Lee Dawson.  

Dorothy is survived by her Daughter Karen Ann (Stan) Kennnedy  and Son Karl (Celia) Henderson; Grandchildren Stephen S. Dawson, Alex (Amy) Kennedy,  Raymond (Allison) Henderson and Karlee Henderson; Great Grandchildren Stashia Dawson,  Stephen T. Dawson, Stephen S. Dawson, Jr., Ah’Nadia Dawson; Great Great Grandchildren Nia Dawson and Ah'mire Dawson; Brother-in-law, R. Howard Thompson and a host of Nieces, Nephews, Cousins and Numerous Dear Friends.
