Dwight Alexander was born on November 19, 1956, in Joliet, Illinois, to William T. Alexander and Minnie Alexander. He was raised and educated in Joliet, attending Forest Park Grade School, Gompers Junior High School, and Lockport High School, where he proudly graduated with the Class of 1974.
Dwight grew up in a strong Christian environment and throughout his youth attended several churches including Mt. Moriah Baptist Church under Pastor McNear, Mars Hill Church of God in Christ led by Pastor Curry, Prayer Tower C.O.G.I.C. with Pastor R. L. Dorris.
Following high school, Dwight honorably served his country by joining the United States Army. His service allowed him to travel the world, with his final overseas duty taking place in Germany in 1977.
Known as both a hard worker and a loyal employee, Dwight dedicated himself fully wherever he worked. He retired from Land O’Lakes after 21 years of service, having worked in several states along the way. Prior to that, he also spent several years employed at Mars before relocating from Joliet, Illinois.
Dwight was truly a man loved by many. He never met a stranger wherever he went, he made friends easily and built lasting connections. His love for sports began early, as he was an excellent basketball player in his prime. A devoted Chicago sports fan throughout his life, Dwight remained loyal to his hometown teams even after living in Virginia, Arkansas, and Oklahoma. Still, he also showed support for Oklahoma City teams even though in his final days, you could always find him cheering for the Chicago Bears.
A phenomenal cook, Dwight was well known for his culinary talents. After years of preparing meals for family and friends, he eventually began offering dinner plates by popular demand. His turkey legs, chili, and polish sausages were among his signature dishes, prepared with his own special, one-of-a-kind recipes.
Family always held a special place in Dwight’s heart. Near or far, he enjoyed attending family reunions and creating lasting memories with loved ones. He also cherished spending time fishing with friends and had a deep love for music, often relaxing in his garage while listening to his favorite songs on his JBL speaker, nodding his head to the rhythm. Though not much of a dancer, he certainly felt the music. Dwight also enjoyed a good game of spades and was always eager for friendly competition.
Full of life and joy, Dwight had a presence that lit up every room. Whether hosting gatherings, attending events, or simply being that one guest who guaranteed a good time, he brought laughter, warmth, and energy wherever he went.
Dwight peacefully transitioned to his Heavenly reward on Friday, March 13th at The Grand at Bethany Skilled Nursing Facility in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William T. Alexander and Minnie Alexander; his brothers Claiborne Alexander, Eugene Alexander, Greg Alexander, and William M. Alexander Jr.; his special friend Deborah Glenn (“DG”); and his special cousin Billy Brooks.
Dwight leaves to cherish his wife, Anita Alexander of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; his beloved and only daughter, Tiffany Davis of Marietta, Georgia; four brothers, Michael T. (Detra) Alexander of Plainfield, Illinois, Randy Alexander of Southaven, Mississippi, Rodney D. Alexander of Sacramento, California, and Tony (Kelly) Alexander of Park Forest, Illinois; and his one and only favorite sister, Celia Alexander of Southaven, Mississippi. He also leaves behind special friends Emma Brady, Anthony Shelby, Ricky Shelby, and Russell Visor; mother figures Lebertha Hughes and Joyce Shelby, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, and friends who will forever hold him close in their hearts.
