Edna Dixon Obituary

Edna P. Dixon was born February 9, 1938, to Willie and Janie Harris, in the small town of Caruthersville, MO.  Edna was the 15th child to their union.  She traveled between Caruthersville and Arkansas during the time her mom was ill.  At the age of 16,  Edna moved to Cleveland, Ohio to reside with her oldest sister; she later moved to Chicago at the age of 18.  Chicago remained her home until her passing.

Edna accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at the age of 16.  She loved the Lord with all her heart, soul, and mind.  In her conversations, she always acknowledged God no matter what she was talking about.  She loved to talk about the goodness of the Lord, how he kept  her, and the many blessing He had done throughout her life.  There were many people in her life that instilled the importance of living a saved ad sanctified life.  A few of the churches Edna fellowshipped with were Paradise Temple COGIC, Monument of Love COGIC, Miracle Revival Center COGIC, and Progressive Life Giving Word Cathedral.  She served as an usher and a member of the Mother's Board. 

Edna married and had two daughters, Sheila Dixon -Griffin and Catherine (Danny) Howard; three grandchildren, Matthew (Rakira) Griffin, Devon D. Howard, and Corrinna D. Howard; three great-grandchildren, Nathaniel Griffin, Amiya Griffin, and Kira Griffin.

Edna retired after 26 years of service from Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, IL serving many years in the food service department.  She also served with the Cook County Hospital for 10 years prior to accepting the position at Lutheran General.

Edna was proceeded in death by her 13 siblings.  She leaves to mourn her two loving daughters, her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, two special nieces who were more like sisters, Bessie Butler and Lessie Shawler, and many nieces,  nephews, other relatives and friends whom she loved dearly.
