Emeritus Elect Lady Jeffie M. Jordan lived a beautiful and faithful life spanning 89 remarkable years. She was born on December 28, 1936, in Sunnyside, Mississippi, to the loving union of Johnnie Mitchell and Delia Hughes Mitchell. As the eldest of ten children, Jeffie embraced responsibility, strength, and grace from an early age—qualities that would define her life and ministry.
Her educational journey began at Brown Elementary School, where she completed her studies in 1951, before continuing to Crane Technical High School, graduating on January 28, 1955. Following graduation, Jeffie began working as a secretary in the Social Services Department at Cook County Hospital. Even during those early years, her heart remained dedicated to ministry. On her way to work, she would stop at the Living Witness Office to assist with recording baptismal candidates. Her faithfulness led to her becoming church secretary in 1958 for Living Witness, Inc., and she later served as the personal traveling secretary to the late Evangelist Mattie B. Poole.
Lady Jeffie’s walk with Christ began in August 1951 when, as a young teenager, she accompanied her mother to a revival service at an Assembly of the Church of God in Christ. There, her heart was deeply convicted, and she surrendered her life fully to God. That night, she received the gift of the Holy Spirit, speaking in tongues as the Spirit gave utterance. Desiring to be baptized in Jesus’ name without delay, she went to Bethlehem Healing Temple and was baptized in October 1951, making it her lifelong church home under the leadership of Bishop Charles E. Poole and Evangelist Mattie B. Poole.
Serving the Lord became Lady Jeffie’s greatest joy. At Bethlehem Healing Temple, she grew in faith through Bible classes, Sunday School, and the Dorcas Girls Ministry. Over the years, she served faithfully in numerous roles, including Junior Matron, Junior Usher, Sunday School Teacher, Youth Department leader, and Bible School Co-Captain. In 1962, Evangelist Mattie B. Poole appointed her Chairperson of the Young People’s Auxiliary, a position she faithfully held until 1980.
Lady Jeffie had a profound love for young people and a steadfast belief in the transforming power of God. She often expressed that God not only saves, but keeps those who remain committed to Him. For more than 75 years, she served the Lord with unwavering devotion, never turning away from the faith she cherished so deeply.
On January 13, 1973, Lady Jeffie was united in holy matrimony to the late Emeritus Bishop Clord Jordan. Through this union, she lovingly embraced a blended family of eight children, becoming a devoted wife, mother, mentor, and spiritual guide. Together, she and her husband labored faithfully in ministry, serving side by side in every capacity the Lord required.
Her ministry extended far beyond the church walls. Lady Jeffie served tirelessly as a missionary, feeding the homeless, supporting food pantry initiatives, serving on the pastor’s committee, working as church secretary for Bethlehem Apostolic Church, serving as Sunday School Superintendent, and directing Vacation Bible School. Her life was a testimony of servant leadership, compassion, and unwavering dedication to the Kingdom of God.
On April 29, 2026, at 4:44 p.m., Lady Jeffie peacefully transitioned from labor to reward, surrounded by the love of her family.
