Eric Lurry, Jr. Obituary

Eric DuBrock Lurry Jr. affectionately known as “BJ”, made his transition on January 29, 2020. Eric was born to Eric DuBrock Lurry Sr. and Ollie Autumn on August 7, 1982 in Joliet, IL. Eric loved the game of basketball and enjoyed playing basketball with his family and friends. As a child, Eric’s father coached him in becoming the great basketball player that he was.

Eric dedicated his life to Christ at an early age and attended Mt. Ebal Missionary Baptist Church.

Eric received his education at Joliet Central High School.

Eric was a resilient one; he could bounce back from anything. Eric set goals and made it his priority to achieve them. Eric had a passion for cutting hair and loved working in the barbershop. Eric attended Larry’s Barber College and graduated with honors in October of 2019. Eric did not stop there, as he was determined to become a Barber Instructor and was pursuing his dreams. Eric was currently attending school at Larry’s Barber College to obtain his Instructors  License, while also working as a dedicated and tireless Barber. Eric was enrolled in Commercial Driving License school and was scheduled to begin this month.

Joys of Life

Eric embodied the definition of what it means to be a good man. Eric had a charisma that gravitated everyone’s attention in any room when he walked in. He had a smile that could light up any room. Eric’s sense of belonging spoke volumes. He loved his wife and his family with complete humility.

Eric had a heart of gold and would give you the shirt off his back. He was an awesome provider and loved helping everyone. He grew a passion for socializing, and mentoring young adults. Eric will be remembered for his contagious laugh.

When Eric wasn’t spending time with his Wife and close family, you could find him cutting hair. His high character showed through his willingness to volunteer his hair cutting services at the nursing home, back to school events and church.

Eric was the life of every party he attended. Eric loved putting his clothes on, looking good and going out to eat. Eric also enjoyed going bowling and talking cash mess on the spades table.
