Flemon Lee Pullins was born in Natchez, Mississippi on April 7, 1928 to parents, Martha and Jesse Pullins. In hopeful pursuit of greater opportunity and a broader view of the world, he joined the United States Army. It would be this fateful decision that would not only shape his future, but also lead him to the love of his life.
While stationed in Japan during the Korean War, Flemon met Suzue Sato, and the two were married on December 19, 1955. Their union was one of enduring love and partnership, lasting and incredible 60 years. Together, they built a life centered on faith and family.
Flemon was the proud father of four children, Mary Lee, Beatrice, Clarence and Maurice, all of whom he loved dearly.
Eventually, Flemon and his family made their home in Chicago, where they planted lasting roots and became part of a strong and supportive community. Having confessed his love for Christ at an early age, he was a devoted member of Christian Hope Missionary Baptist Church, where he faithfully serve as an usher for many years, always greeting others with quiet dignity and warmth.
Flemon dedicated over 40 years of service to the United States Post Office, demonstrating a work ethic that never wavered. Outside of work, he loved to travel and explore the natural beauty of the states. He frequently took road trips to visit family in the South and Eastern part of the country. Flemon also had a keen interest in investing, particularly in real estate and the stock market. He was always thinking ahead and planning for the future.
Though he was not one to seek the spotlight, Flemon was a steady and dependable presence in the lives of those who knew and loved him. His calm nature and gentle spirit made him a cornerstone of his family. He lived a life defined by quiet strength, steady dedication, and a deep love for family.
Today, we celebrate a life well lived, a love that endured, and a legacy built on loud words, but on meaningful actions. Flemon will be remembered always with love, gratitude, and a smile.
He leaves to cherish his memories; beloved daughters, Beatrice Sledge and Mary Lee Allen; son, Maurice Pullins; grandchildren, Clarence Pullins, Jr. (Bernadette), Naomi Pullins, Tiffany Sledge, Chanel Turner (Glenn), Yana Turner, Kristina Pullins, Randy Pullins (Josephine), and Dominique Pullins; and a host of great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
