Mother Freida Mae Kimble was born on August 8, 1948 in Winona, Mississippi to the union of Warren C. Dorris Sr. and Margaret (Rimpson) Dorris. The family moved to Joliet, Illinois in 1950.
Freida attended the Joliet Public Schools and graduated from Joliet Central High School in 1966. Freida was employed at Kmart in New Lenox. In 2012, Freida retired after 35 years of service.
In 1951, Freida attended All Nations Church of God in Christ under the leadership of the late Pastor Harvey Brooks with her parents. In 1952, Prayer Tower Church of God in Christ was founded by Freida’s uncle, the late Pastor Robert L Dorris. Freida was one of the founding members of Prayer Tower. Freida worked faithfully as a member of the Mother’s Board, the Hospitality committee, Pastor’s Aide, and the Youth and Senior choirs.
In April 1967, Freida was united in holy matrimony to the late, Walter L Kimble Sr. One of Freida’s greatest joys was being a mother. Freida nurtured and loved five children: Walter L. Kimble Jr. (Paula), Tawana McCullum (Jerry), Nicole Kimble Sims (Dale), the late Satoria Lynn Spiva, and Jennifer Spiva.
Freida was known for her high first soprano voice and she used her voice to sing to the glory of God. Freida would occasionally sing praise songs on the Prayer Tower Morning Gems prayer line. Freida also had the gift of oratorical speaking and writing speeches and would share her gift during church anniversary and Mother’s Day programs. Freida was taught about oratorical speaking by the late Mother Meyers. One of the most famous speeches that Freida wrote was called, “ A Mother’s Love.”
Freida never met a stranger in church or on the job. Freida would always greet you with a sweet spirit and a smile. Freida loved to cook and was known for her homemade potato salad, pound cakes, sweet potato pies, and pecan pies.
On Wednesday, June 5, 2024, Freida’s assignment on earth was completed.
Freida was preceded in death by her daughter, Satoria Lynn Spiva, parents, Warren and Margaret Dorris; sister, Marie Dorris; niece, Michele Yvette Garner; nephew, Montique Mays; two brothers-in-law, Eddie Westmoreland and Charles Williams.
Freida leaves to cherish her memory to one son, Walter L. Kimble Jr. (Paula) of Ambler, PA, three daughters, Tawana McCullum (Jerry), Nicole Kimble Sims (Dale), and Jennifer Spiva; seven grandchildren, Walter L. Kimble III, of Ambler, PA, Gerald Nicolas McGee, of Columbus, Ohio, Sienna Kimble, of Charlotte, NC, Sydni Kimble, of Ambler, PA, Jadah McCullum. Jadah McCullum, and Deitrick Sims; one brother, Bishop Warren C. Dorris Jr. (Rita); four sisters, Ruby Williams, Dolorita Dorris Mackins, Ivory Crosby (Terry), and Sherry Westmoreland; two god-sons, Quynten McGee, of Washington, D.C., and David King of Gary, Indiana; a special cousin, Ribbon Holder; special friends, Edna Floyd and Wanda Sykes; the entire Prayer Tower Church of God in Christ family, and a host of relatives, nieces, nephews, and friends.
